KENTUCKY HORSEMEN
YES, WE CAN!!
Mention the name Kentucky to any horseman or woman in the world and they will know the significance of that magical place. Mention the word to any horse and you probably will not get a response at all. But if they could, most would think of home. Not just a home that they once lived in but of a home in their dreams of where they would like to live one day.
I seem to look at Kentucky is to horses what America was to the immigrants from around the world many years ago. Instead of looking for a better life in the land of milk and honey with streets paved with gold, it is more like the land where all the grass is blue and every sire has one hundred mares. Kentucky is the home of the thoroughbred. Whether through actually living there, being born there, or just conceived there, maybe had a relative from there or just wanted to someday make it there, there is no place in a horse's mind quite like Kentucky.
So here at the residency of the Kentucky Horseman we are proud to be a part of Derby Fever's 2012 Equinics celebration but we have big shoes to fill. We not only represent our own residency but we represent everything that the horses call home. We are a small, select group of horseman who like the horses, call Kentucky home. While others come to this magical place to watch the horses here or to take the local horses to the far corners of the earth, we stay. We stay in this land the horses call home.
We may not have the best runners or the biggest spenders in the world of Derby Fever but each one here has a keen understanding of what it takes to compete at the highest level. Everyone here is proud to call Kentucky our home and with that, The torch is held proudly together by all so that we may represent our community well.
